Field Hymns No. 2 came out of an itch. After finishing the first record which was based on what I could strip away, I wanted to see what I could create leaning deeper into pop arrangements and weirder synth ideas.
Most of these songs started on acoustic guitar or piano and were built up slowly with light electronics and field recordings. The idea was to let the sound breathe and leave enough room for silence to do part of the work.
If the first record is about lyrics and thoughtful silent space, this one is about kicking up dust and seeing what settles.
Nothing on this record is meant to sound finished. The edges are soft, the timing leans a little late. The point was to advance the project more towards popular music (although a little weird) without losing the central vision.
